As general contractor at the Lowell Superior Courthouse, M&A performed the exterior rehabilitation of the 1850 Romanesque Revival original building, designed by architect Amni Young, student of Alexander Parris, the architect of Boston’s Quincy Market, and the 1895 Classical Revival addition, including:
- Complete wood window sash replacement and epoxy repair and restoration of frames
- Abatement of lead and asbestos at intricate dental work
- Restoration of wood elements at the cupola and clock faces
- Roof replacement in slate and copper
- Restoration of ornamental iron
- Repointing and restoration brick masonry
The major part of the contracts was performed under a strict four-month deadline, and all work was performed in a busy, open courthouse during working hours, without disruption of operations. Many of the items for this project had long lead times, and thus meticulous coordination was required to deliver a complete project on-time—which M&A did with ease.
