It is often said that one of the most problematic elements of building construction is fenestration. The problems are compounded in historic buildings, where wood or metal windows have deteriorated and the restore-or-replace decision can be key to keeping the project within budget. M&A has been restoring windows for over decades, using a combination of stabilization joinery, custom fitted wood patches made from the same species, grain, and profile, and limited epoxy consolidation techniques. When windows are not cost-effective to repair and there is a decision to replace them to match the existing windows, M&A can offer a range of replica or period-appropriate wood windows.

We are available to assess the condition of historic windows and to recommend cost-effective means of making them operable and weather-tight, including the use of interior or exterior storm panels and screens, weather protection using weatherstripping, flashing, insulation, and caulking, replacement of weights and chains for smooth operation and tight fit, and the replacement of single-glazing with insulated glass. Not every technique for restoration or weatherizing is necessary or appropriate for every situation.
